The Death of Vert
On April 3rd, ESPN announced that the summer X-Games would no longer include vert skateboarding. X-Games General Manager, Chris Stiepock, said: ‘”It’s time. It’s been time… It’s no secret that the vert field has stayed the same for the last decade. It’s no secret that there aren’t any vert ramps for kids to ride outside Southern California,”
So modern skateboarding will be Street, Megaramp, and a new ‘Superpark’ event, which is said will make your local skatepark puny and insignificant.
Opponents to the move, however, argue that it is too drastic a move made too quickly. Pierre-Luc Gagnon points out that without vert, how will people learn to ride the megaramp?? Andy Macdonald said that the move is too drastic and he agrees it should be modified, but not taken out completely. Of course these guys have a lot invested into the vert style so of course they would be against the move.
What are your thoughts to the move??
